Longtime (17
years) Brookshire’s executive and
Jacksonville store manager Steven Norton has
teamed with his cousin Doug Norton to
purchase the former Cherokee Country Club
“We hope the people of Cherokee County will
support us,” Steve Norton said. “We’re just
a couple of local guys who love golf. But
between us we have more than 40 years of
management experience, so we’re looking at
this as an investment, too.
“Jacksonville needs something like this. We
want to be an asset to the city.”
A new chef has been hired and an irrigation
system is being installed at The Woods at
Jacksonville, owner Steven Norton said
January 17, 2007.
“The weather has put us behind a bit as far
as the irrigation system goes, but
everything else is on schedule,” he added.
So far, about 150 people have joined the new
semi-private club, he added.
Norton said the irrigation system, which
will take two months to install, will be
eventually “vastly improve” the golf course.
Former Hollytree chef Kelly Castles has been
hired to oversee food and beverage
operations at the new club, formerly
Cherokee Country Club. The clubhouse is
scheduled to open Feb. 1.
Brian Mims has been hired to be the gold pro
and the course has been open since Jan. 2
for members and non-members alike. The golf
club will be semi-private, Norton said,
although members will have preferred
tee-times.
“Tee-times are not required but are
requested,” Norton said.
